OUR FOUNDER
April M. Wright
Producing a music review is about orchestrating a hundred moving parts to create a single, cohesive experience. It’s the art of turning vision into reality, where every detail counts in bringing the story to life.
The Petal
When I was seven years old, I won a variety competition and that began my love of music, and my passion for the arts. Before that, I have heart-warming memories of being awakened by music as a child. My alarm clock would be Rogers & Hammerstein, the Sound of Music and other recordings.
The Flower
I became fascinated with music at the North Richmond Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late Rev. C.W. Newsome. There are warm heartfelt memories of the sights and sounds of the choir, the music: the lyrics spoke to me, they were healing, soothing and seemed to bring joy to everyone listening. Whether it was singing, directing choirs, on a theatrical stage, playing flute or piano or spinning records on the radio, it all fueled my passion for the arts.
The Bloom
The idea of Symphony Enterprises® materialized in 1994. Since then, Symphony has grown from a booking agency that assisted speakers with appearances, scheduling and travel into a production company and music education entity that educates all ages about the African American experience and its various genres of music from field hollers of the enslaved to Jazz, Broadway, and more through theatrical performance.
The Instruments
Although organization is a love and natural gift, I developed it through critical, extensive professional studies. I studied at Jackson Statue University, Jackson, MS and hold a Bachelors of Arts in Management from the Union Institute and University, Cincinnati, OH; I have done continuing education at UCLA, John E. Anderson Graduate School of Management; San Francisco State University; City of El Cerrito Entrepreneurs Training Program. I hold professional certifications from various institutions including the Convention Industry Council now known as the Events Industry Council.
